11-7-11 Raw results and thoughts

Coverage and thoughts on the November 7, 2011 episode of Raw

The show starts with John Cena coming out and he talks about teaming with The Rock at Survivor Series and Rock’s return to Raw next week. Miz & R-Truth then come out and Miz talks says that tonight he & R-Truth will leave him with a lasting impression he will never forget. Truth then says that Cena won’t be laughing after tonight. Cena then cuts his usual promo and he says that his partner is the 5th Beatle and a bunch of other stuff and Miz says it doesn’t matter who his partner is and that Cena’s time is up. They double team Cena and Zack Ryder comes in to make the save and they announce Cena & Ryder vs. Miz & Truth for tonight’s main event. This was a decent opener.

John Morrison vs. U.S. Champion Dolph Ziggler. Morrison gets the pin. This was a good back and forth match. Morrison won a match, but what does that say for Dolph?

They show a Mason Ryan video package.

Mason Ryan vs. JTG. Ryan gets the pin. This was a squash.

The Bellas are backstage and Zack Ryder comes in saying tonight is his night because he’s teaming with Cena.

Michael Cole mentions that Jim Ross couldn’t make it to England for the Michael Cole Challenge and rags on him AGAIN and says JR can fight him next week. He also says that next week Raw won’t get Rocked, but will get “Coled.” That was awful.

WWE Tag Team Champion Kofi Kingston vs. WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio wins by submission. This was a short match. After the match Del Rio locks Kofi in the Arm Breaker and then CM Punk comes out. They go back and forth and Punk talks about Alberto’s “Destiny” that Survivor Series he will make the WWE Title interesting again. Alberto says that he is the Champion and that makes him the best in the world. Del Rio asks Punk to give up his Title match. Punk of course says no and they brawl and Punk gives Ricardo the GTS. This was a good segment. Both guys cut good promos.

They show a Jack Swagger promo from “earlier today” mentioning how he lost to a Muppet.

Santino Marella vs. Jack Swagger. Swagger wins by submission. There wasn’t much to this.

Jerry Lawler is in the ring and he has a portrait set up and Kelly comes out to unveil her Maxim cover. She talks about her WWE career. Beth Phoenix & Natalya come out and they rag on Kelly and they want her to cry. Eve Torres & Alicia Fox then come out to back up Kelly. Beth & Natalya bail. Eve then tells Kelly that this is her moment and they unveil Kelly’s pic. This was meaningless.

Johnny Ace come out and introduces Kevin Nash. Nash comes out says that Triple H meant nothing without him. He also says that he could be World Champion. I hope to God that doesn’t happen! This was what you would expect from Nash. I wasn’t a fan of this promo.

They show the Brodus Clay video package.

Johnny Ace & David Otunga (AKA Clarence Mason 2011) are backstage talking about how great they are (great at making the fans groan) and Ace says that he doesn’t want to waste Brodus Clay’s return in England. Why advertise that he will be on the show and then not deliver? CM Punk comes in and tells them that they don’t know what the fans want (we all know Vince sure doesn’t have any idea). Otunga says the WWE Champion shouldn’t look like someone who works in a gas station and Punk attacks him. Del Rio comes in from behind and puts Punk through a catering table. This was a mixed bag. Ace & Otunga are brutal to watch but Punk’s promo was good and the Del Rio attack was also.

John Cena & Zack Ryder vs. The Miz & R-Truth. Miz & Truth win when Miz pins Cena while Truth holds Cena’s leg from the outside. This was a good back and forth match. Miz & Truth pose on the ramp to end the show.

I thought that this week’s show was just kinda there on the whole. There wasn’t a lot of build for Survivor Series. Punk & Del Rio had a good segment and the main event tag match was good, but most of the show wasn’t memorable.
