6-8-12 Smackdown results and thoughts

Coverage and thoughts on the June 8, 2012 episode of Smackdown

The show starts with Alberto Del Rio coming to the ring. He has the guys in the production truck re show what happened on Raw when he locked Sheamus in the arm breaker as Sheamus was hanging from the edge of the stage. Del Rio tells Sheamus not to mess with him because if he thinks that was bad, he will break Sheamus’ arm at No Way Out. He then says he will take the World Title and then Sheamus’ music hits and Ricardo Rodriguez comes to the ring dressed as Sheamus. Del Rio admits that this guy isn’t Sheamus. Del Rio says that anyone be Sheamus. He says that anyone can punch their chest like a cave man. Ricardo pounds his chest like Sheamus does. Then Del Rio says that anyone can spike their hair like a stupid kid. Then he says that anyone can act like a hooligan. Then he says that there is only one Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio sarcastically asks the fake Sheamus if he’s gonna hit him with the Brogue Kick. Ricardo goes for the Brogue Kick and falls. Then Del Rio that’s what will happen at No Way Out. Sheamus will fall on his “arse.”  Then Sheamus’ music hits again and the real one comes to the ring. He and Ricardo double team him. Sheamus chucks Ricardo out of the ring and then he pounds on Del Rio. Then Ricardo comes back in and jumps on Sheamus’ back but Sheamus chucks him out of the ring again. Then Del Rio pounds on Sheamus for a bit but Sheamus makes the come back and Del Rio rolls out of the ring. Del Rio & Ricardo head up the ramp but Sheamus goes after them and gives them a double clothesline from behind. Then Sheamus pummels Del Rio on the stage. He was going to give Del Rio the Razor’s Edge from the stage but Ricardo grabs Sheamus’ legs. Del Rio gives Sheamus a round house kick and then punches him. Then referees come out to break it up. Some of the referees back Del Rio & Ricardo back to the ring, while other referees check on Sheamus. Then Teddy Long comes out. He says that Johnny Ace isn’t there and he is in charge. Long says he’s not going to have Sheamus & Del Rio turn this show into chaos right off the bat. Then he announces 2 matches for tonight. Sheamus will face Kane. Then he tells Del Rio to stay in the ring because he will face this man. Great Khali comes out. This was ok. I thought having Ricardo dressed as Sheamus was idiotic but the attack on the stage was alright.

Great Khali vs. Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio wins by submission. This was ok. Del Rio dominated most of the match.

They re show the Big Show video package from Raw.

Teddy Long is backstage on the phone with somebody saying Johnny Ace isn’t here so he left him in charge. Then Brodus, Naomi & Cameron come in. Longs tells Brodus that he has some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that Brodus is no longer allowed on Raw. The good news is that he is now going to be on Smackdown. Like it matters. The “brand extension” doesn’t mean anything. Then Brodus says that when he sees his opponents he will see Big Show and he will eat them up. This was ok. I haven’t got much else to say about this. Except why would Johnny leave Teddy Long in charge?

Brodus Clay vs. Derrick Bateman. Clay gets the pin. Brodus pummeled Bateman the whole match. I like that they’re having him be more aggressive. Afterwards he does his shtick and has a few kids in the ring.

Sin Cara vs. Drew McIntyre. Sin Cara gets the pin. This was a decent match.

(In a segment that was for the live crowd, Drew McIntyre cut a promo complaining that he isn’t in main events. Then Triple H came out and gave him a pedigree. When is Drew going to get a push?)

Time for the Ryback squash. 2 unknown guys named Tony Andriotis & Kevin Mahoney are in the ring. One guy says mirror mirror on the wall who will be the first guys to give Ryback his first pinfall. The other guy says that they will start Ryback’s downfall. Then the first guy says who will be the fastest rising stars of all. The other guy says they will be. Then Ryback comes out.

Ryback vs. Tony Andriotis & Kevin Mahoney. Ryback gets the pin. This was the typical Ryback squash.

They set up the Peep Show set in the ring. Then Cody Rhodes’ music plays and he comes out and tears apart the set. Cody gets the mic and says that he doesn’t answer to Christian. Christian should answer to him. Cody says that Christian is the guy who stole the title that he brought glory back to. He says Christian is the guy who had a mid life crisis and Christian is the guy who decided to pander to the fans. Then Christian comes out on the stage and says that he is the guy that beat Cody for the Intercontinental Title. Christian tells Cody that if he wanted to be the host of “this little shindig” all he had to do was ask. Then Christian gets in the ring. Then Cody says that the only thing that he’s interested in asking is who Christian is trying to fool. Cody mentions that before Over the Limit Christian didn’t care about the fans. Cody asks him why he sacrificed what little self respect he had left. Christian says that he had a moment of clarity. He mentions that he’s missed some in ring time because of an injury. Then he says that the night before WrestleMania he inducted Edge into the WWE Hall of Fame. Christian then says that while Edge gave his speech it hit him like a ton of bricks. He mentions that coming out for the peeps is a privilege that can go away in an instant. Then he says that he doesn’t wanna be remembered as the guy who kept whining for one more match. He then says that he wanted to return and win championships. Then he mentions that he wants to have a Hall of Fame career just like Edge. Cody says that is a load of garbage. Cody says that he knows Hall of Famers. Cody mentions that his dad is a Hall of Famer. Then Cody says that he is a future Hall of Famer and one of the few guys that talks about the future everyone knows he is being honest. Then Cody says that Christian is a guy who took advantage of a situation and got lucky at Over the Limit. Then Cody says that at No Way Out his Intercontinental Title is coming home. Christian tells Cody to shut his mouth. Then Christian says that Cody was nice enough to start the Peep Show. Then he says that he will be nice enough to ending by wiping the ring with him. Then Dolph Ziggler comes out and says that it was nice of Cody to start the Peep Show a little early but he’s here to wrap it up. Then Dolph says that he is going to show off and beat Christian right now.

Intercontinental Champion Christian vs. Dolph Ziggler. Christian gets the pin. This was a good match. Cody Rhodes was on commentary.

They re show the John Cena-Michael Cole crap from Monday. UGH! Having to see that dreck once was bad enough! Why show it again!?

Back to the show and Michael Cole takes his headset off and gets a mic. He says that Monday night was one of the most traumatic experiences in his entire life (And possibly every wrestling fan’s too). Then he says that he knows that Josh Mathews, Booker T and all the fans will be mature enough to move on. Cole says that he’s reached the bottom point of his career. The Jim Ross’ music plays and Hornswoggle comes out dressed as JR. Hornswoggle gets in the ring and impersonates JR asking for the clip to be played again. This is beyond stupid! They replay it in slow motion. (What are they doing to us)!? Then Hornswoggle continues talking like JR. Then Damien Sandow comes to the ring (Thank God)! Sandow mentions that he is here to help the fans. He says that for far too long miscreants like Hornswoggle have been given the pushes in WWE and that only leads the fans (the lambs of the WWE Universe) to the slaughter of their on ineptitude. Then he says he can not and will not allow this idiocy to continue to assimilate itself into society. Then Sandow says that Hornswoggle will be taught lesson this evening. Sandow bends over and tells Hornswoggle, “You’re welcome.” Hornswoggle thumbs his nose at Sandow. Sandow was going to let him have but Tyson Kidd came to the ring. Sandow throws Tyson over the top rope but Tyson lands on the apron and gives Sandow a spring board drop kick, and that sends Sandow to the floor. Tyson tells Sandow to get back in the ring but Sandow walks out. Then Sandow runs back in the ring and hits Tyson from behind. Then Sandow pound on Tyson and gives him a neck breaker. This started out really awful. I don’t know why they showed that crap from Monday AGAIN! Having Hornswoggle come out dressed like and impersonating Jim Ross was also idiotic! Damien Sandow was great as usual. His promo was one of the highlights of this bit. Then the back and forth with him and Tyson was good too. They should have just had Tyson vs. Sandow without the other crap! That would have been WAY better!

Matt Striker interviews Kane backstage.  He mentions that Kane has a chance to beat both the WWE Champion & the World Champion in the same week. Striker asks how Kane feels about this. Kane says that he doesn’t have any feelings. Then he tells Striker to ask CM Punk how he felt after Kane choke slammed him Monday and to asks Sheamus after he does the same to him tonight. Then Kane says that his only concern is winning the 3 way at No Way Out and becoming the WWE Champion. Then Striker asks about the look that Kane & AJ gave each other on Raw. Kane doesn’t say anything and intently looks at Striker. Then Striker walks off. Then as Kane walks off screen AJ comes out from behind the wall. This was a decent promo.

Jimmy Uso is in the ring. Then Teddy Long comes out on the stage and says that Johnny Ace has asked him to personally introduce and support the following superstar. Then he takes out a sheet of paper. He announces, “Accompanied to the ring by his lover Aksana, please welcome one of the most talented young athletes in the WWE today Antonio Cesaro.” Then Cesaro & Aksana come out. This was stupid!

Jimmy Uso vs. Antonio Cesaro. Cesaro gets the pin. This was a squash. Then Cesaro & Aksana tell Long to come in the ring. He gets in the ring and raises Cesaro’s arm while Cesaro & Aksana kiss. Then Long walks out in disgust as the make out scene continues. Terrible!

World Champion Sheamus vs. Kane. Sheamus wins by DQ when Del Rio & Ricardo come out. Ricardo gets in the ring and that leads to the DQ. Del Rio backs off. Sheamus calls Del Rio to come in the ring and then when Sheamus turns around Kane hits him. Then he was going to choke slam Sheamus but AJ comes out and gives Kane the goo goo eyed look. This distracts Kane and when he turns around Sheamus gave him a Brogue Kick. Then Del Rio backs up the ramp as Sheamus tells him to get in the ring. Then as Ricardo gets back in the ring Sheamus gives him a Brogue Kick. Sheamus then stares down Alberto as Alberto stands on the stage. This ends the show.

I thought this week’s show was a mixed bag overall. It wasn’t great but it wasn’t horrendous either. The opening segment with Ricardo dressed Sheamus was idiotic. The Sheamus-Del Rio encounter was decent. I thought the Sheamus-Kane match was good. The DQ was kinda weak, but I get why they ended the match that way. I’m not sure what they’re doing with AJ. Now they have her eyeing Kane. I like how she plays the whacky character tough. The Michael Cole bit with Hornswoggle dressed as JR sucked but Sandow coming out was good. The back and for with Tyson & Sandow was solid too. Sin Cara-Drew McIntyre was a solid match too. Jimmy Uso-Antonio Cesaro was a squash and the whole bit with Teddy Long & Aksana was awful. The other matches on the show were ok too but nothing memorable. On the whole I thought this was a mediocre show.
