10-7-11 Smackdown results and thoughts

Coverage and thoughts on the October 7, 2011 episode of Smackdown

The show starts with Teddy Long & Zack Ryder backstage talking about the Raw walk out saying that Raw’s loss will be Smackdown’s gain. I don’t get this; Triple H is the COO of WWE that means he is charge of Smackdown too!

Christian, Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett, David Otunga, Jack Swagger, Dolph Ziggler & Vickie Guerrero are in the ring and they say that if HHH doesn’t step down as COO then they will boycott live events because WWE is not a safe working environment. This is idiotic! Alberto Del Rio comes out and says that the Smackdown stars will not return to Raw (I thought the “brand extension” was done) while HHH is COO. He says that he is here to show Smackdown what Raw will be missing this Monday. This makes zero sense!! Teddy Long then comes out and announces Sheamus & Randy Orton vs. Christian & Cody Rhodes for later tonight. He then tells Del Rio that if he wants to have a match tonight, then he will face the Blue Sin Cara. This was a decent opening segment and I thought they all cut good promos. It’s just too bad that it revolves around such a dumb storyline.

Blue Sin Cara vs. WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio wins. After the match the Black Cara comes out and attacks the blue one. This was a solid match.

Matt Striker interviews Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne asking them why they walked out at the end of raw. They say that it was a mix of things, and that they won’t be back till HHH steps down as COO. This Storyline is the dumbest thing in wrestling this year!

WWE Tag Team Champions Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne vs. U.S. Champion Dolph Ziggler & Jack Swagger. Dolph & Swagger win when Swagger pins Bourne. They attacked the champs during their ring entrance and Kofi wrestled most of the match in his own. This was a decent match.

Alicia Fox vs. Divas Champion Beth Phoenix. Beth gets the quick pin. After the match Natalya locked Fox in a submission hold while Beth took the mic and told Fox to cry and scream in pain.

Big Show returns and talks about finally returning after being injured and out of action for months. He then says that he wants to face Mark Henry and wants a Title shot. Mark Henry then comes out and says that he will deal with Show in time, but Show hasn’t done anything to deserve a Title match. He says that if he does give him a Title match it will be on “World Champion time.” Show then says that he wants an answer from Henry by tonight and he wants it to be yes, or he will put him through the announce table and break his ankle. This was a really good segment, Show cut a real intense-emotional promo and Mark Henry’s promo was real good as usual too.

Matt Striker interviews Randy Orton and mentions that a lot of fans think that he deserves another Title match. Orton says he is not going to whine about and that he will go through the entire roster for a World Title match if he has to. Striker then asks him why he wasn’t at ringside at the end of Raw. Orton says that if he has a problem with Triple H then he will deal with him personally. He mentions that he doesn’t play well with others and isn’t too fond of group mentality. Striker then that that will make it hard for Sheamus. Orton then says that it will be worse for Christian & Cody. Good promo from Orton.

They show another Brodus Clay video package. This was really well done. I’m looking forward to seeing him on Smackdown.

Jinder Mahal is in the ring speaking his language and Ezekiel Jackson comes out. Mahal then rags on Zeke and then Zeke punches him.

Ezekiel Jackson vs. Jinder Mahal. Zeke wins by submission. This was a short match. After the match Zeke gets the mic and says he told Mahal to shut up.

Johnny Ace comes into Teddy Long’s office and says that Teddy can count on him if he needs anything. Can we please end this meaningless storyline?

Time out for a rant here. This whole Triple H as COO and all the heals voting no confidence on Raw was dumb. This whole storyline makes ZERO sense and Everyone (except the COO HHH character) knows that it will more than likely turn out to be Johnny Ace who is behind the whole “chaos”. Also Jerry Lawler’s promo and follow up video saying that he’s not blaming HHH for what has been happening but then saying that as long as he is COO it is his fault and whoever is messing with him will continue to if HHH doesn’t resign as COO made no sense either. Also why have the “vote of confidence” if the guy knows that the talent is gonna vote against him? The whole thing is really idiotic!!

Booker T & Hornswoggle are in the ring and they both do spinnaroonies. I’m not sure why they felt the need to have this on the show.

Sheamus & Randy Orton vs. Christian & Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes. Sheamus & Orton win when Orton pins Cody. This was a good match.

Mark Henry comes to the ring to answer Big Show’s request for a World Title Match and says no. Big Show then runs out and attacks Henry and security tries to hold him back, but he breaks threw and spears Henry and attacks him some more before security tries to break it up again and Big Show lays them all out. Henry heads up the ramp as Show clobbers the security guys. Show then yells for Henry to give his answer and Henry says no and holds up the World Title. Show then chases after Henry and Henry tosses him into the security wall. Henry then heads over to the announce table and takes it apart. He then drags Show over to the table but Show comes to and choke slams Mark Henry through the table. Big Show then gets a chair and was going to put it on Henry’s ankle and drags the steel steps closer and he stands on them ready to jump on Henry’s ankle when Teddy Long comes out and says that Show will have his Title match if he doesn’t jump on the chair. Show starts to walkout but then picks up the chair and hits Henry in the back. This was a great closing segment. They’re really doing a tremendous job with this feud.

I thought that this was a good show on the whole. The Big Show-Mark Henry segments were really good and I liked the Sheamus & Orton-Christian & Cody match. The Brodus Clay video package was good too. The guys all cut decent promos in the opening segment but the storyline is just so ridiculous. The main event tag match and the Big Show-Mark Henry segments were the highlights of the show this week.
