10-20-11 Impact results and thoughts

Coverage and thoughts on the October 20, 2011 episode of Impact

The show starts with Sting coming to the ring and he mentions that he promised 2 things when Hogan and Bischoff took control of TNA. First was to get the company back in Dixie Carter’s hands and the second was to bring back the “real” Hulk Hogan. He mentions that there was one defining moment at Bound For Glory and that there was someone who decided to do the right thing (which behind the scenes he’s NOT) and he wants him to come to the ring. Hulk Hogan comes out and gets a “welcome back” chant from the fans (UGH). Hulk mentions that for the last year he had been in a bad place and that Bischoff helped through a lot. He then mentions that that he was following was Bischoff was doing (They’re BOTH ragging on the“marks” right now as they like to say, BROTHER!). He then says that Bischoff made some bad decisions and mentions how he was the “follower” when he should have been a leader. Hogan then thanks Sting for bringing back the old Hulk Hogan. Hogan then says “What’s ya gonna do when Hulk Hogan and The Stinger come running after you.” This is crazy! Hogan leaves and Sting asks Dixie Carter to come to the ring. Dixie comes out and they go to commercial. Back to the show, Sting tells Dixie that her being back in charge doesn’t change what happened over the past year and a half. He then says that Dixie gave him a home to come to and that he loves TNA (Good for him, cause a lot of people don’t. That’s for sure!) He also tells Dixie that now that she is back in charge there is no room for error. Dixie then tells Sting that he was right all along and she apologizes to him and says that this won’t happen again (Having the company “taken” from her.) She then says that she wants Sting to be in charge of the “day to day operations” for Impact. (So does that make Sting the new COO?) Kurt Angle then comes out and it’s time for another commercial. Back to the show, Angle says that there is not only one “super hero” in the ring, but there are 2. Those of course being Sting and Dixie Carter. He then says that he wonders if all this was for him or for Bobby Roode (Roode was supposed to win the Title but Hogan decided to change that at the last minute because he felt that the fans wouldn’t get behind a Canadian as World Champion, so he says.) Angle says that he realizes that Dixie is in charge and that Sting is running the Impact Zone but that he will be running things since he is the World Champion. Huh? He then says that he made Roode look like a loser at Bound For Glory and that he is the better man. Bobby Roode then comes out and he calls Angle pathetic (actually Hogan and Bischoff are) and that he screwed him on Sunday by holding the ropes to get the win. Roode then says what on Sunday was b.s. Sting then suggests that Roode and Angle should have a rematch for the World Title tonight. Angle then tells Sting that the match can’t happen because the contract that he and Roode signed for Bound For Glory that Hogan and Bischoff added and that was that Roode could only wrestle Angle once. Angle mentions that Roode is the real deal but he screwed him at the PPV. He then mentions James Storm’s catch phrase and the Beer Money music then plays and James Storm comes out and we go a THIRD commercial. Back to the show. Storm introduces himself to Angle and then says that the BFG contract never said that Storm can’t have a World Title Match against Angle. Storm then mentions that at the PPV Angle screwed the fans, TNA/Impact Wrestling and Bobby Roode. He then says that the fans will see a World Title match tonight even if it can’t be Roode vs. Angle and Sting then says that James Storm will challenge Kurt Angle for the World Title tonight. Roode then says “Sorry about your damn luck” to Angle. Nothing says wrestling matters like having over a half hour of talking! This segment went WAY TOO LONG!

Backstage crap with Bischoff asks if he can meet him in the ring later tonight. The other Immortal guys were Bischoff. This was dumb.

Knockouts Tag Team Champions Brooke Tessmacher & Tara vs. Winter & Angelina Love for the Titles. Tessmacher & Tara retain when Tessmacher pins Winter. This was really short! This was the first match on the show and they it at !

The Jarretts come to the ring and Jeff calls out Jeff Hardy so they finish what they started Sunday. Jeff Hardy comes to the ring and Jarrett mentions that Victory Road was not the first time that Hardy messed up and screwed over the company and he reminds him about a PPV he no showed a few years back (Actually there were 2. One was supposed to be him vs. Raven at the first Hard Justice and he was replaced by Sean Waltman and there was another one, I believe the 2005 Turning point.). Anyway back to the coverage. Jarrett then gives Hardy 2 choices. He can either drop the mic and walk away and never be heard from again or he can face the TNA Founder. Hardy mentions that the fans want to see him and that Jarrett is the only one who is complaining and that Jarrett can’t stand the reaction that Hardy gets. They then start to brawl and security and referees come out to try to break it up a few times, but they get lose and continue going at it and some agents come out to break it up. While they try to get Jarrett out of the ring Al Snow and D’Lo Brown argue for some reason and when that happens Hardy sneaks back in and goes after Jarrett. The brawl continues and eventually Jarrett kicks Hardy in the groin and then heads for the back. This segment was decent before the security guys came out. I thought both guys cut good promos. I have no idea why they had Al Snow & D’Lo argue and each one telling the other to get Hardy and Jarrett out of the ring. That made no sense.

Kurt Angle promo backstage saying he will whip Storm’s ass tonight and that Sting can’t put one over on him.

Eric Young is backstage and Robbie E comes in with Rob Terry and Robbie says the TV Title belongs to him. Young says that he is in charge of TV since he is the TV Champion and other nonsense and mentions that Ronnie from Jersey Shore will be with him. This was idiotic.

Gunner comes to the ring and talks about what happened last Thursday when Immortal attacked Abyss and Gunner calls him out for their match.

Abyss vs. Gunner. Abyss wins by count out when Gunner bails. This wasn’t much. Abyss beat the snot out of Gunner the whole time.

Velvet Sky backstage saying that she proved everyone wrong who said that she wasn’t good enough to be Knockouts Champion and she thanks the fans for being there. This was a good short promo.

Immortal segment backstage and Gunner comes in all frantic over Abyss attacking him and Bischoff and Flair tell him to get a grip and they will take care of Hulk first.

The new Knockouts Champion Velvet Sky comes to the ring and talks about what it means for her to finally be Knockouts Champion. She mentioned that being bullied when she was a kid. The fans chant “You deserve it” about her being Knockouts Champion throughout this segment. Karen Jarrett then comes to the ring with Traci Brooks. Karen says that she was going to fire both of them but that would be way to easy. She rags on Traci again and she has security get Traci out of the ring. She then tells Velvet that she wanted to strip her of the Title but she has something else in mind. Karen continues to rag on Velvet and then she brings out Madison Rayne. While Madison stands outside the ring and Velvet is watching her, Gail Kim comes out through the crowd and attacks Velvet and Madison and Kim double team her. Gail, Madison & Karen then stand over Velvet. This was a decent segment. Velvet cut a real good emotional promo and Karen was good at being the really obnoxious heal. Gail Kim returning was ok but not really mind blowing or anything.

They show still shots of Hogan helping out Sting after their match at Bound For Glory.

Eric Bischoff comes to the ring with Bully Ray, Gunner & Scott Steiner. Bischoff mentions that his son is an ingrate and that he will settle the issues with his son “in his own way” (Spoiler note: Eric calls out his son to the ring at the next show.) and says that he is not done dealing with Garrett. Eric then says that he expected Hulk would come to the ring and explain what happened at the PPV to his face. Hulk Hogan then comes out and he says that Garrett is more man than Eric could ever be. The Immortal guys come in the ring but Sting comes out through the crowd with baseball bats. Sting gives a bat to Hogan and Immortal bails. As Eric heads up the ramp Garrett is standing behind him and Eric rags on him and Garrett punches him. I wasn’t too fond of this segment. There’s been WAY too much talking on this show!

They show James Storm backstage doubting if he deserves a World Title match. Bobby Roode gives him a pep talk and he tells Storm that this is what he has worked his whole career for to become the World Champion. This was a good backstage segment.

James Storm vs. TNA World Champion Kurt Angle for the Title. Storm gets the pin to win the Title. The match was short with Angle punching Storm and the referee breaks it up and while Angle argues with the referee Storm hits Angle with a Super Kick for the pin. After the match Bobby Roode comes out to celebrate with Storm goes into the crowd to celebrate with the fans. Kazarian & AJ Styles also come out with some beer and they celebrate in the ring. Storm then got the mic and said that he was honored to be the new World Champion. He then hands the Title to Bobby Roode and Roode tells Storm that he appreciates Storm giving him the Title but the fans are right that Storm deserves the Title. Roode straps the Title around Storm’s waist and they raise their arms to end the show. This was a good moment and it was cool to see James Storm win the Title but they still should have had Bobby Roode become Champion at Bound For Glory.

I thought that overall there was WAY TOO MUCH talking on this show and NOT a lot of wrestling. The bell to bell action felt like it was less than 10 minutes. The opening segment went ultra long and got really tiresome! The rest of the show was a mixed bag but I liked the closing bit with Storm winning the Title.
