3-7-13 Impact results and thoughts

Coverage and thoughts on the March 7, 2013 episode of Impact
Before the show starts they have a graphic in memory of Bill Moody AKA Paul Bearer. He will be greatly missed.

The show begins with camera guy asking Kurt Angle who the VP of Aces & 8s is. Angle is shocked at who it is. He hasn’t told anybody but he will tonight. No one in this company is safe. I really hope we find out tonight.

Austin Aries comes to the ring. He says if there’s a better way to start Impact live it hasn’t been discovered yet. Wherever he is greatness is sure to follow. He doesn’t know where Bobby Roode is but Aries took out Hernandez last week. Then after his win he found Bully Ray & Jeff Hardy and he gave them words of confidence for their title match. He didn’t have to but he did but they didn’t appreciate him wishing them good luck. They disrespected him. Aries mentions that Ray told him he would never be world champion again. He’s here to prove Ray wrong because he’s calling out Jeff Hardy. If Jeff’s half the man he says he is he will come out and prove it. Out comes Jeff. As he’s slapping the fans’ hands Aries sneak attacks him and takes Jeff’s personal belt. Then he throws him in the ring.

TNA World Champion Jeff Hardy vs. TNA World Tag Team Champion Austin Aries. Jeff wins by DQ when Matt Morgan comes in and gives Jeff a Carbon Foot Print. Then Morgan sets Jeff up outside the ring by the ring post and was going for a second one but then Bully Ray came out with a chain and Morgan backed up the ramp. This was a good match and I knew there wouldn’t be clean finish. I wasn’t expecting Matt Morgan to come out though so that was cool. Ray coming in and saving Jeff was good too and I’m guessing he will turn heel Sunday and reveal himself to be the Aces & 8s leader.

Sting says this will be the biggest Lockdown ever. It’s Storm’s chance to take Aces & 8s out, Magnus has come along way, he tells Joe to be the killer that he is and the world will find out why Sting chose Eric Young. Sting will kick it off the fun tonight.

Backstage camera guy asks Matt Morgan about his actions. Morgan says Jeff is champion and Ray is Hulk’s handpicked challenger. Morgan promised that he would gut through the whole roster till he gets what he wants and he is just getting started. This was a good promo.

Wes Briscoe comes to the ring. He says before Angle comes out and reveals the VP he wants to get something off his chest. His dad & uncle were 2 of the best wrestlers and they told him that Angle was 1 of the greatest they ever saw. Wes wanted to be him till he got to meet him. That’s when he found out how worthless Angle. Angle has a tin metal around his neck for a sport that the Olympics got rid of. At Lockdown Wes Briscoe will be on top, he will use Kurt Angle as a stepping stone & the world will know that a Briscoe is better than an Angle. Out comes Angle. He remembers the snot nose kid asking him all kinds of questions about wrestling. He says that Wes isn’t like his dad or his uncle. If you don’t respect Kurt Angle you don’t respect the business. Angle made a mistake trusting Wes but he will fix that mistake Sunday. Before Angle reveals who the VP is he is going to beat Wes’ ass right now. They go at it and then D’Lo Brown, Pat Kenny & Al Snow comes out to pull them apart. Then D’Lo kicks Angle in the gut and Wes takes out Al Snow & Pat Kenny. D’Lo & Wes walk out. D’Lo says he wanted to come down and reclaim his property (his mask). Then D’Lo says that he is the VP of Aces & 8s. He tells Angle to recognize that. This was good. I thought both Angle & Wes cut good promos and I liked that they revealed who the VP is. Not too surprising it was D’Lo but it was good.

Backstage we see Aces & 8s. D’Lo tells Devon to take care of business. D’Lo says when he joined Aces & 8s he said that he would never walk alone again. He can trust his guys. Then he asks if Sting can trust his team mates.

Sting vs. TV Champion Devon. Devon gets the pin. This was decent. A “fan” threw a drink at Sting when he & Devon brawled outside the ring.

They show last week’s Gut Check contestants backstage. We’ll find out their fate later.

Camera guy asks Velvet Sky how it feels to be Knockouts Champion again. Velvet says it’s awesome. Then Gail Kim comes by and says that Velvet & Taryn screwed her out of the Knockouts title. Gail says that she beat both Tara & Velvet and is undefeated at Lockdown. Velvet doesn’t pay any mind to Gail so Gail flips Velvet’s hair and then Velvet slaps her.

Bruce Pritchard & Al Snow bring in “Nightmare” Danny Davis to replace Taz as the third Gut Check judge. They talk about how Velez & T’apa were in their match last week.

Velez & T’apa are backstage. Pritchard says this is the toughest Gut Check they’ve deliberated on. Tonight one of them will get a chance to see their dreams come true and the other will be eliminated. Velez is eliminated & T’apa will face the judges later.

Hernandez, Chavo Guerrero & Knockouts Champion Velvet Sky vs. Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian & Gail Kim. Daniels, Kazarian & Gail win when Gail pins Velvet. This was solid.

Sting is backstage smashing up his bat. He’s flipping out and asks his teammates if they can be trusted. Joe says he can be trusted. Magnus isn’t sure if he can trust Joe. Magnus sometimes doesn’t trust himself, but tonight he will show what he is all about. Joe says he’s got fighting to do.

Time for an update on AJ Styles. Some guy comes up to him and AJ throws him back in his van. Thankfully this was really short.

Samoa Joe & Magnus vs. Doc & Garrett Bischoff. Joe & Magnus win when Magnus pins Doc. This was solid too.

Kenny King says he’s the star of the X Division. RVD is a legend but he is a rising star. It doesn’t matter who he faces at Lockdown. He did whatever it took to win the title and will do whatever it takes to keep it.

Backstage we James Storm, Eric Young & ODB. Then Sting shows up. Young says he’ the funny guy but Aces & 8 attacked him and he hasn’t forgotten. He’s been in battles before and has come out on top. Young tells Sting to give him the match and there is no punch line. Sting picks Storm. This was decent. I liked that they had Eric Young cut a more intense promo.

JB is in the ring with the Gut Check judges. Then out comes Lady T’apa. JB asks her if she thinks the judges saw her very best in the ring last week. She says last week she came in the ring and showed everyone what she is capable of doing. She might not have won that match but she showed everybody that she accomplished a lot in less than 2 years and will accomplish more if she gets a contract. Davis goes first and he says yes. Pritchard says that they lost a member of their family, Bill Moody. He says Moody will be missed (He really will). He thinks T’apa has the look and the pedigree but he votes no. Time for T’apa to cut a 30 second promo. She says 2 years ago she started wrestling. Last week she came to show what she’s capable of doing. She knows she can dominate and bring something great to the knockouts division. Al says, “We’ll miss you “Uncle Paul.” Al votes yes. So Lady T’apa gets a TNA contract. The fans were booing her like crazy and chanting no. This was decent. I liked that Bruce & Al paid tribute to Bill Moody. He will really be missed!

Robbie E says that since Rob Terry out shined him he had to break the poster over his head. That was just a taste of what he will do to him at Lockdown “Bro.”

James Storm vs. Ken Anderson. Anderson gets the pin. This was ok but kind of short. Aces & 8s came out and then Team TNA hits the scene. Afterwards Aces & 8s celebrate. Not surprisingly Aces & 8s will have the 1 man advantage at Lockdown.

Bully Ray & Brooke Hogan come to the ring. Then Jeff Hardy comes out. Ray says 3 days till they’re locked inside of a steel cage. This will be the biggest TNA PPV of all time. 3 days till Jeff & Ray do what they do best. Make pro wrestling history. They’ve done it before & will do it again. The fact that Jeff holds the belt is the big deal, but the fact that Jeff has battled his demons is a bigger deal. Ray’s proud of him. The fans chant Hardy. Jeff says ever since he’s been champion Aries, Roode, Daniels & Angle have all beat him down but he’s remained champion. Jeff knows Ray will beat the hell out of him on Sunday, but will it be enough. Jeff is proud of Ray too for everything he’s done. Ray’s proud of the history they made but Ray’s never been proud of himself. He expected to be 1 half of the greatest tag teams of all time. The only way he can be proud of himself is by beating Jeff. Ray isn’t climbing out the cage or going out the cage door. He’s beating Jeff with his beat move. That’s when he will be proud of himself, when he raises the title over his head as world champion. Then out comes Hulk Hogan on crutches. Hulk says this is as big as it gets. There’s a locker room of guys that have worked hard to get where they are but Jeff & Ray are the best. This small company became a big company and is going onto greatness. The leader will take TNA to the future and he will be at Lockdown. Jeff’s been a great champion. Ray’s like family to Hulk and at the end of the may the best man win “brother.” Jeff & Ray shake hands. Then Ray gets Brooke out of the ring and Aces & 8s come out. They attack and then Team TNA hits the ring and it’s an all out brawl to end the show. This was good. I thought Jeff & Ray were both good on the mic. I could have done without Hulk though. The brawl at the very end was good and I figured they’d end the show that way.

I thought this was a solid show overall. They did a good job in the final build to Lockdown. I liked Jeff-Aries and Matt Morgan coming in was a nice surprise. The Jeff-Ray face off followed by the TNA-Aces & 8s brawl was solid too. I liked Eric Young’s promo too. Sting-Devon was decent and I have a feeling that the “fan” who threw his drink at Sting will be a new Aces & 8s guy. Joe & Magnus vs. Doc & Garrett was also solid. Storm-Anderson was ok but kind of on the short side. The Gut Check segment was decent also. I liked that Bruce & Al paid tribute to Bill Moody. He was really fun to watch and will be greatly missed. I liked the 6 person tag match also; Kenny King cut a decent promo too and I was ok with the Velvet-Gail backstage segment. I wasn’t surprised that D’Lo revealed himself to be the Aces & 8s VP but I thought that was decent too. I liked his backstage promo about not being alone now that he’s part of this stable. The Sting bit where he asked his teammates if they can be trusted was decent too. Overall I thought this was a solid show and they did a good job with the final build to Lockdown.
