2-16-12 Impact results and thoughts

Coverage and thoughts on the February 16, 2012 episode of Impact

The show starts with Bobby Roode coming to the ring and tells Christie Hemme to reintroduce him because the fans were really loud. She re announces him and He mentions that he still has the World Title after beating 3 guys and that the highlight was Sting having to raise his arm. Then he mentions that Sting should be pointing the finger at himself and not Roode because it was Sting who helped him remain Champion. The crowd chants for Sting and he comes to the ring and says that he was selfish and that he let his anger determine the result of the match. Sting mentions how he screwed Jeff Hardy a second time but he wants to make things right. He says that since Roode is a “fighting champion” he will defend the World Title against Jeff Hardy in a No DQ, No Time Limit match tonight. Sting’s music plays and then he tells Roode that the match is next. This was a good opening segment. Roode cut a great promo as usual and Sting is really good in his role too.

Jeff Hardy vs. TNA World Champion Bobby Roode in a No DQ, No Time Limit match for the Title. Roode gets the pin after Kurt Angle comes in and throws Jeff into the stairs. This was a really good match. (Note: They originally had Angle knock Jeff off the ropes but for some reason they re taped the finish).

Bobby Roode cuts a promo backstage saying he retained the Title again. Then he asks how many chances will Jeff Hardy get. Then Sting comes in and says that he isn’t done yet and that he will defend the Title again. He says that there will be a number on contender match tonight. This was decent too, but how could Roode have cheated if it was No DQ match?

Eric Young is backstage with a guitar and talks about how he forgot to get ODB a Valentine’s Day present. Whatever. I’m tired of this gimmick.

Sting is talking to 2 guys who have unfinished business and that he is sick of the world title situation. He asks if they’re in and they show James Storm & Bully Ray. Ray says that there shouldn’t have to be a match since he had the title won Sunday. Storm says that he had the match won and says he will bet Ray tonight. This was good too. Sting’s been good tonight and Ray of course was good too as was James Storm.

Alex Shelly & Shannon Moore vs. Zima Ion & X Division Champion Austin Aries. Ion & Aries win when Ion pins Shelly. This was a good match too. Aries had Shelly set up for the brain buster but Ion made the blind tag. That allowed Shelly to escape the attempted brain buster and then Ion rolled Shelly up for the pin.

They show a video package on the legit concussion that Jessie Sorensen got at the PPV. They say that he is doing better and will be released from the hospital this week. Thank God he’s going to be ok.

Gail Kim & Madison Rayne are backstage and Gail complains and then Madison says that they had some tension Sunday but doesn’t want to fight. This was ok.

Before the Battle Royal starts Madison gets the mic and says that everyone needs to understand what a great champion she is. She says that Gail doesn’t owe them anything but she is generous she is letting this battle royal happen.

Velvet Sky, Sarita, Rosita, Mickie James, Madison Rayne, Angelina Love, Winter, Brooke Tessmacher, Tara & ODB in a 10 Knockouts Battle Royal to become the number one contender for the Knockouts Title. Madison Rayne wins when she eliminates Velvet. Madison sat at ringside with Gail Kim most of the match and then came in and eliminated Velvet after Velvet eliminated Sarita. Gail wasn’t too thrilled about that. (Elimination order: 1 Winter by ODB 2 Brooke Tessmacher by ODB 3 Rosita by ODB 4 Mickie James by ODB 5 ODB by Tara, Velvet & Sarita 6 Tara by Sarita 7 Angelina Love by Sarita 8 Sarita by Velvet 9 Velvet Sky by Madison) This was a typical battle royal with fast eliminations till it got to Velvet, Angelina & Sarita. Madison coming in was ok too.

James Storm cuts a promo saying that at the end he will be the guy standing after tonight’s match and be the number one contender for the World Title. This was good too.

Samoa Joe & Magnus are backstage and says it feels good to be Tag Team Champions. Magnus says that it’s also right. Joe says that will remain the Champions after their rematch next week. This was also a good promo. These 2 are really good together.

Eric Bischoff, Ric Flair & Gunner come to the ring with the returning Chelsea. Eric mentions that Flair & Gunner helped to end the chapter in Garrett’s life where he wanted to follow in his dad’s footsteps. He thanks them both and Chelsea brings in some cigars for Gunner & Flair. Then Eric tells Flair & Gunner to have some champagne while he says more about his son. Eric says that Garrett is probably in his hotel room watching and tells him that it was a waste of time to follow in his dad’s footsteps. Then he says that he Garrett’s isn’t him and that Garrett can do whatever he wants but he shouldn’t think about returning to the wrestling business again. Then he wishes him good luck in his future endeavors. Then they have champagne. This was kinda weak. I’m not into the whole Bischoff and Son feud and I have no idea why Chelsea is back.

Bully Ray talks about his match with Storm saying it shouldn’t be happening because he should be World Champion right now. Then he says he will beat Storm and then beat his friend Bobby Roode and become World Champion. This was a really good promo from Ray. The guy is one of the best talkers!
Christie Hemme interviews some guy about a new MMA show. This was pointless.

Eric Young runs into ODB and more nonsense happens. Then Young plays his guitar and sings. He asks what she thinks and she says it’ hot in there. Then she says it is time for his present. This was idiotic.

James Storm vs. Bully Ray. Storm gets the pin to become the number one contender for the World Title. This was a really good back and forth match. Afterwards, Storm celebrates and Brandon Jacobs from the New York Giants comes over the rail and they have a beer. Then Ray goes after Storm. Then he gets in Jacobs’ face and says that he’s in Ray’s house. Then Ray spits beer in his face and Jacobs pushes him down then they brawl and security holds Jacobs back. After Ray left, Jacobs & Storm go in the ring and they taunt Ray. Then Jacobs & Storm hug and then Jacobs raises Storms’ arm.

James Storm & Brandon Jacobs are backstage and Jacobs says he came to see Storm beat Ray. Then he mentions that Ray was out of line when he spit the beer at him. Then he says that he got the last word. Then Storm says that if the Patriots couldn’t stop him then no one can. Then Jacobs says that payback is coming for Ray.

Sting comes to the ring and says that he has some good news but first he wants to speak to Bobby Roode. Roode comes out and Sting tells him that the match of the year for Impact at Lock Down saying that Roode will defend the World Title against James Storm in the Steel Cage. Then Roode kicks Sting in the groin and then kicks him. Then he takes Sting’s glasses off and puts them on. Then he hits Sting with the belt and then punches him in the head. Then he puts the glasses back on Sting. Roode stands over Sting and then he gets the belt and tells Sting that he should learn to mind his own business. This ends the show.

I thought this was a good episode overall. The opening and closing segments were good and I liked the Hardy-Roode & Storm-Ray matches. Both were really fun to watch. The rest of the show was good overall too. Joe & Magnus cut a good promo and so did Bully Ray. The only parts that were weak were Eric Bischoff talking, the Eric Young-ODB segments and the Knockouts Battle Royal. I liked the rest of the show! The X Division tag match was good too. Ion vs. Aries should be a good match. I’m also glad to hear that Jessie Sorensen is doing better! Thank God! This was a really good show on the whole.
