Coverage and thoughts on the October 14, 2013 episode of Raw

The show starts with Shawn Michaels coming to the ring. He thanks everyone who voted for him to be the referee. It’s nice they didn’t forget about him. Everyone’s concerned about his personal feelings regarding the guys in the cell match. Years ago he trained a guy who wanted be a WWE super star. That guy was Daniel Bryan. He’s always liked Daniel, never like Orton & his best friend is HHH. This match is not about him, it’s about the 2 guys in the match. Then he mentions that he was in the first cell match in the building they’re in tonight (Which is in St. Louis). He saw what happened at NOC & Battleground. Those were both crocs but that won’t happen again. 1 guy will be WWE Champion. Then out comes Orton. He has a match with Miz next so he will make this quick. He says Shawn has everybody all convinced. That’s great but Orton was born & raised in St. Louis. He knows the people there better than anybody especially Shawn. Orton says the people from there aren’t that bright. Orton can see through Shawn. Shawn doesn’t hate him. He resents him because he knows that Orton will always be that much better than Shawn was. That eats at Shawn inside. Shawn knows Orton’s rattled but Orton needs to worry about Daniel. Orton won’t just beat Daniel he will beat him real bad. Shawn will have to watch & count 1-2-3 & raise Orton’s arm. Everyone knows Shawn’s no stranger to screw jobs. They’re practically his thing.  If he screws Orton at the cell there’ll be no coming back from what Orton will do to him. Shawn says Orton is trying to intimidate him. A lot of people have tried, but Orton won’t scare him. If Orton puts his hands on him Shawn will kick Orton’s head off of his shoulders. If you’re no down that he’s got 2 words for you. Then Orton goes to RKO Shawn but then Shawn goes for a super kick & Orton slides out of the ring. Then The Miz comes out & he goes after Orton. Referees come in to break up the brawl. The Miz- Randy Orton match is next. This was a decent way to start the show. I thought bot Shawn & Orton were good on the mic & The Miz coming out & going after Orton in Orton’s home town was good.

The Miz vs. Randy Orton. Orton gets the pin. As Miz was locking the Figure 4 on Orton out go the light & The Wyatt family Tron shows up. The Wyatts are on the stage. Miz is distracted by this & Orton gives Miz an RKO for the win. WINNER – RANDY ORTON. This was a solid match.

Then Bray says Miz is the epitome of everything he loathes about this world. The lime light, diamonds & red carpet. How much will it take to satisfy Miz of this obsession with fame? Here they are tangled up in a spider’s web. He tells Miz not to be afraid. He doesn’t wish to see Miz suffer he will just put him down. Follow the buzzards. Good promo from Bray. It looks like they’re setting up a Miz-Wyatt Family program. Miz vs. Bray should be interesting.

Santino Marella vs. Fandango. Fandango gets the pin. This was decent.

Michael Cole announced that Cody Rhodes & Goldust will challenge Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins tonight for the Tag Team Titles. What happened to the title match that The Usos are supposed to be in line for?

Backstage Paul Heyman is in the GM office with Brad Maddox. They reshow Punk kicking Ryback low at Battleground. Heyman wants Brad to something about it. Brad says Ryback has a rematch with at the cell so what more does Heyman want? Heyman calls Punk a cheater & says that made Brad look ridiculous. He wants Brad to let him pic the stip for hell in a cell. Heyman wants Punk to face Ryback & Axel in a handicap match. Brad doesn’t think that’s fair. Heyman says Punk’s a cheater & a weasel. Brad never thought he would hear a walrus call a punk a weasel. Then Brad says let’s put Ryback to the test in a beat the clock challenge. Ryback will face R-Truth & Punk will face Axel. If Ryback beats the clock Brad will let Heyman pick any stip. If Punk wins than Punk gets to make the stip. This was a decent backstage bit.

Michael Cole mentions that Xavier Woods has a petition going around to get Big Show resigned. Lawler says how great it is & of course JBL doesn’t go for it & asks who Xavier Woods is. This was terrible.

Time for a John Cena video package.

Los Matadores make their way to the ring. Ole. This gimmick is hokey! Break time.

Back from break & what do ya know? Los Matadores will be facing 3MB AGAIN! How often are we gonna see Los Matadores beat these guys?

Los Matadores vs. Heath Slater & Drew McIntyre. Los Matadores win when Slater gets pinned. This was the same not funny comedy we get from these guys. Then El Torito hits Jinder. Then Matadores give Jinder a double forearm. Then Los Matadors hold up Jinder & El Torito gives him a spring board splash.

Time for a video package recapping last week’s Big Show saga. You know. In case anybody actually forgot what happened! Like anyone can forget this. Though it was cool that HHH FINALLY sold for somebody.

HHH & Stephanie McMahon come to the ring (God help me)! Stephanie says last week she learned a valuable lesson. Not to let her kindness be mistaken for weakness. Then the fans loudly chant you got knocked out at HHH. Stephanie then says that she & HHH have bailed Show out more times than they can remember & last week Show punched HHH in the face. She tells the fans to cheer but where’s Big Show? He’s not there & they’re reprocessing his home or some bull crap like that. Stephanie says HHH is the King of Kings, The game, 13 time world champion, he wielded the attitude era (Oh come on) & now HHH is the WWE. HHH says that rumors of his demise have been exaggerated. He’s been COO for 2 years & he did this for the fans. To make sure WWE would be here for the future. He became the authority figure knowing what he would have to put up with because no one likes the boss. Every guy has his breaking point & his was last week when Big Show knocked him out & the fans chanted yes. The fans chant yes. He says after all they’ve done they’re just the villains. The fans want him to be the bad guy? Fine, but he will give us something we’ve never seen before. Big Show will do anything to avoid being thrown in the clink. The rest of the roster won’t dare to defy his authority, etc. Too much crap to type up. Then out comes Daniel Bryan. As he’s doing the yes chant Del Rio comes out & attacks Daniel from behind. Then Stephanie asks if Daniel was saying something. Then she says that Daniel will face Del Rio tonight. Then HHH mocks the yes chant as the fans chant no. This was terrible!! I’m WAY PAST TIRED of HHH & Stephanie! Can they please stop saying how great HHH is!? I know he he’s the boss’ son in law but GIVE IT A FRIGGEN REST! This whole “best for business & no one can stand up to HHH (except for 2 years ago when everyone walked out on him)” is beyond old!

R-Truth vs. Ryback in a beat the clock challenge. Ryback gets the pin in 5:44. This was decent.

Backstage we see Stephanie. She comes across the Bella Twins & congratulated Brie on her engagement. Then she tells brie that Daniel was chanting yes over HHH. What will Daniel have to say after Brie’s match with Tamina? Stephanie says that Nikki is banned from ringside but AJ will have a good view.

In the Goldman box we get a typical Zeb Coulter promo. He talks about the government being shut down & says that Los Matadores are Los Illegals. The Real Americans will expose Los Matadores for what they really are and that is no bull.

Tons of Funk (With Naomi & Cameron) vs. The Real Americans. The Real Americans win when Cesaro pins Brodus. This was ok. Cesaro lifted up Brodus for the neutralizer to get the pin. That was impressive. Then Cesaro goes to give Brodus the big swing. Tensai comes in but Swagger fights him off. Then Cesaro gives Tensai the giant swing.

Brie Bella vs. Tamina Snuka (With AJ Lee). Tamina gets the pin. This was ok too.

Then Tamina gives Brie a Samoan drop. Then she gives Brie a shoulder breaker. Then Tamina goes up top & gives Brie the Superfly splash. Then Tamina pulls Brie up by the hair & AJ locks Brie in the Octopus. Then out comes Nikki to check on Brie as Tamina & AJ walk up the ramp.

Backstage we see Stephanie & Brad watching a Goldberg-HHH match from the DVD. Then Daniel storms in & is pissed that Stephanie gave Brie the business. He calls Stephanie cold & Conniving. Brad tells Daniel not to talk to Stephanie that way. Stephanie says that she didn’t cause this & then tells Daniel that he has a fiancé to attend to. Daniel storms off. Whatever. Daniel was good here but I’m tired of Stephanie.

CM Punk vs. Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel in a Beat the Clock challenge.  Punk gets the pin in 5:33 beating the clock by 11 seconds.

Then Punk asks where Heyman’s going. Punk just beat Axel so he gets to pick the stip for his match at the cell PPV. This is where Heyman becomes proud of him because Punk learned from Heyman. He likes Heyman’s idea & says that there will be a handicap match at the PPV. Punk will face Ryback & Heyman in the cell. Good promo from Punk & this looks like the payoff to this angle.

Daniel Bryan vs. World Champion Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio wins by count out. Orton shows up on the Tron. He saw what happened to Brie. He’s sorry that had to happen but Orton will see if she’s ok. Orton goes into the trainer’s room shuts the door & then the Bellas scream. Del Rio rolls up Daniel for a 2 count. Then Daniel runs to the back to rescue Brie & gets counted out. WINNER BY COUNT OUT – ALBERTO DEL RIO. This was a good back & forth match & I thought Orton did a good job as the dastardly heel on the Tron.

Daniel storms into the trainer’s room to see if Brie’s ok and then Orton attacks Daniel from behind. Orton glares at Brie & Nikki & walks out. Then Referees, medics & brie check on Daniel. This was solid. I just hope this all leads to Daniel Bryan winning the WWE Title!

Backstage we see The Shield. They talk about over what happened to Daniel. Then HHH & Stephanie come in. Stephanie tells them Cody & Goldust beat them before. HHH says that won’t happen tonight because tonight’s match is now No DQ. He tells The Shield the gloves are off. The Shield leaves & Stephanie kisses HHH. Thankfully this was short.

Time for another video package recapping John Cena’s recovery from his injury.

Goldust & Cody Rhodes vs. WWE Tag Team Champions Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins in a No DQ match for the Titles. Dean Ambrose gets involved of course. They were gonna give Cody the triple power bomb but Goldust comes in with a chair. Then Reigns gets the upper hand, picks up the chair & goes for a swing at Goldust but Goldust gets out of the way. Then Cody went for beautiful disaster but Rollins catches him & power bombs him into the barrier. Goldust take The Shield out & then Ambrose goes after Goldust. Then Reigns spears Goldust through the time keeper wall. Then Big Show comes out through the crowed. He punches Ambrose. Rollins goes for a dive but Show catches him & punches him too. Then he punched Reigns too. Then Cody covers Reigns for the pin. WINNERS & NEW WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS – GOLDUST & CODY RHODES. This was awesome!

Then HHH comes in the ring beside himself as Big Show does the yes chant in the crowed with the fans & The Rhodes Brothers celebrate with the titles on the ramp. This ends the show. Great match & a really awesome way to end the show!

I thought this was a good show overall! The Michaels-Orton promo at the start followed by Miz coming out & attacking Orton was really well done & The Miz-Orton match was solid too. I also liked Bray Wyatt’s promo after the Miz-Orton match. It looks like we’ll be getting a Miz-0Bray program. The end of the show was great! They told a great story! It was a great moment seeing Cody & Goldust with the tag titles & Big Show coming in was good also. Daniel-Del Rio was a good match & I was ok with Orton showing up on the Tron. The backstage bit where Orton beat down Daniel in the training room was well done too. Orton is doing a good job at being the dastardly heel. R-Truth-Ryback was decent, Punk-Axel was too. I liked Punk’s promo afterwards when he made the match for the PPV himself vs. Ryback & Heyman. It looks like this will be the payoff to the Punk-Heyman angle. I couldn’t stand the HHH-Stephanie in ring promo! Brie Bella-Tamina was ok & I liked Tamina’s post match beat down followed by AJ locking Brie in the Octopus. Tons of Funk vs. The Real Americans was ok but not much. Cesaro giving Tensai the giant swing was cool. Santino-Fandango was ok too but I’m tired of those characters. I’m also tired of Los Matadores. That gimmick is hokey. Their match with Heath & Drew wasn’t really much either. I heard they were gonna repackage Drew McIntyre but it looks like that won’t be happening. But for the most part I thought this was a good show.
