7-30-12 Raw results and thoughts

Coverage and thoughts on the July 30, 2012 episode of Raw

The show starts with Michael Cole & Jerry Lawler talking about how a fire broke out after the pyro was being tested. Thankfully no one was injured and the fans are coming in now.

Then they show a video package recapping last week’s 1000th episode.

Back to the arena and CM Punk comes to the ring. He says that he had a Raw moment last week that was bigger than most WrestleMania moments. He says that he was uncomfortable the way Raw 1000 ended, which was with Jerry Lawler saying, “CM Punk has turned his back on the WWE Universe.” Punk sits on the announce table. He asks Lawler how he jumped to that conclusion. Punk says that Lawler turned his back on him and that The Rock isn’t the WWE Universe. The Rock is one man. A larger than life delusional movie star who showed Punk a lack of respect. He says that Rock interrupted him which no one should do. Then he says that when he was ragging on Daniel Bryan he acted like Punk wasn’t there. Then he mentions Rock getting a title match at the Rumble. Punk says that he showed the same respect for Rock that Rock showed him. Then he says that Dwayne tried to make last week’s show all about him. Then he says that he showed Rock what kind of a man he’s dealing with. He says that he is WWE Champion. Punk then says that we haven’t heard from Rock, which ironic because when Rock was feuding with Cena no one could shut him up. Then Punk says that Raw ended the way Raw should end every week with the spot light focused on the WWE Champion and the best wrestler in the world. Then Big Show comes out. Punk says that Show came out to steal the spot light too. Show says that at the end of last week’s Raw the focus was on Punk but it was more about him because he is the guy who cost Cena the title. He says that Punk is supposedly the best in the world. He says that he knockout Cena and Punk still couldn’t beat him. Then Show says that Punk wouldn’t be champion if it weren’t for him. Then Show says that he vows to be the next WWE Champion. Punk says that Show couldn’t beat Cena at No Way Out and couldn’t win the MITB Case. Punk he’s the only one doing any winning. Then Cena storms to the ring and goes right after Show. Show pushes Cena away and then he rolls out of the ring. Then Justin Roberts introduces the new Raw GM AJ Lee. AJ comes out and announces Cena vs. Big Show for tonight’s main event and the winner of that match will challenge Punk at SummerSlam for the WWE Title. This was a really good opening segment. Punk cut a tremendous promo as usual. Big Show’s promo was good too. Thank God Cena came to the ring and went right for Show and never spoke. Even AJ coming in was alright. She didn’t cut a long winded promo. She just announced the main event.

Daniel Bryan is backstage standing outside the GM door. He doesn’t go in.

U.S. Champion Santino Marella vs. Alberto Del Rio. Alberto wins by submission. This was a solid match. No surprise that Del Rio won. Afterwards Del Rio gets the mic and says that he just destroyed the U.S. Champion like nothing. He says that both Santino & Sheamus are beneath him and so are all the fans. He says starting today he will not compete till SummerSlam. Decent promo.

They show Daniel Bryan still standing outside the GM door. He goes to knock but he doesn’t.

Back to the show and Brodus Clay is in the ring doing his shtick. Then Vickie Guerrero comes out and says what they’re doing is a disgrace. Then she says that she will show how it’s done. Then Vickie dances. Then Damien Sandow’s music hits and he comes out. He says that last week a horrible crime was perpetrated against all of humanity. Then he asks for the footage to be played. The reshow DX beating down Sandow from last week. Then Sandow goes after Brodus. This was a mixed bag segment. Vickie dancing was idiotic. Sandow’s promo and attack on Brodus was good.

They show the promo from 2 weeks ago when Dolph said Jericho is losing his touch. Then they show Jericho throwing Dolph into the ring during Dolph’s match with Sheamus from Smackdown.

They announce Chris Jericho & Christian vs. Dolph Ziggler & The Miz for tonight.

Daniel Bryan finally goes into AJ’s office. He says that she left him at the alter for a power suit. She tells him to shut and says that she is her boss. Then she mentions the guys that were in the white coats from last week. She says they looked like orderlies from the nut house and that Daniel was ready to have her committed. Daniel says he was committed to marrying her. He says they were friends of his and that were in white because he was. Then AJ says that tonight Daniel will face Sheamus. He asks if it’s for the title and AJ chants no. This was decent and short segment.

They recap the Triple H-Stephanie-Paul Heyman-Brock Lesnar segment from last week.

Michael Cole & Jerry Lawler mention that the fans can pick the stip for the Sheamus-Daniel match. The choices are no holds barred, falls count anywhere and street fight. These are all the same kind of match.

Josh Mathews asks Sheamus which type of match he prefers. He says it doesn’t matter and he likes that AJ is letting the fans decide.

They show the fire from the pyro incident.

Daniel Bryan comes to the ring. He says he wants the fans to stop chanting yes. He says that only he can chant yes and the fans have no right to. The fans chant yes and he chants no. Then Sheamus comes out.

Then Jerry Lawler gets the mic and it’s time to find out what the fans voted for. They picked street fight.

World Champion Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan in a street fight. Sheamus gets the pin. This was great match. They brawled on the stage and around ringside. They used a Kendo stick and a chair. Towards the end the steel steps were brought into the ring. Sheamus eventually gave Daniel the Brogue Kick and Daniel fell back first on to the steps. Then Sheamus pinned him for the win.

Back to the show and Daniel Bryan is lying on the mat. Referees are in the ring with him. He says he hurt his neck and he isn’t leaving the ring till he gets a doctor. Then Kofi Kingston & R-Truth come out. Kofi says that he knows Daniel has been having a bad few weeks but there’s no need to take it out on the fans. Kofi tells him to get out of there. Truth says Daniels needs to split because he, Kofi & “Little Jimmy” got business to settle. Then Daniel Bryan “speaks to Little Jimmy”. Then he “kicks him.” Truth goes to the outside. Daniel tells Truth that “Little Jimmy” isn’t real and that Truth is nuts. Then the guys in the white coats come out. Then AJ comes out and says that Daniel has been mentally unstable and needs to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Then the guys and white escort Daniel up the ramp and Daniel stares at AJ. This was a weak bit. I’m tired of “Little Jimmy.” The whole bit with the guys in the white outfits and AJ saying that Daniel needs a psychiatric evaluation was kinda weird too.

Back to the show and R-Truth “has Little Jimmy take a seat”. Kofi is in the ring for the next match.

Time for TOUTS from fans about the CM Punk heal turn.

Then they announce that the fans can TOUT who they think is more unstable, Daniel Bryan or AJ.

AW comes out and introduces The Primetime Players.

WWE Tag Team Champion Kofi Kingston vs. Titus O’Neil. Titus gets the pin. Darren Young got on the apron but Truth clotheslined him. Then AW tossed his shoe at Kofi. Then Kofi threw it back at him. Then Titus hit Clash of the Titus for the pin. This was a decent but short match.

CM Punk & John Cena are backstage. Punk tells Cena to re watch the last week’s Title match. He says that he might have taken advantage of Big Show coming in but with the WWE Title on the line anything would have been done. Punk then says that there are people who are saying that he should’ve stopped Big Show last week. Punk says he respects Cena but doesn’t wish him or Show luck because he doesn’t care who wins. Then Punk says that Cena’s upset because in one night Punk did to Rock what Cena couldn’t do in a year. This was a good backstage segment.

They reshow Heath Slater getting clobbered by the legends last week.

Heath Slater is in the ring. He says now that the legends finally went back to the retirement home he can get his career back on track. Then he challenges any current super star to out and lose to the one man band. Cue Randy Orton’s music and he returns.

Randy Orton vs. Heath Slater. Orton gets the pin. This was a squash.

Daniel Bryan is backstage saying that his neck hurts. He doesn’t want to answer any of these stupid questions. The guy asks his name, where he’s from, if he is a former World Champion, if he’s a vegan and if he & AJ didn’t get married last week. Then Daniel screams yes over and over. This was idiotic. What are they doing with Daniel Bryan here? Why are they booking him to be out of his mind!?

Chris Jericho & Christian vs. Dolph Ziggler & Intercontinental Champion The Miz. Jericho & Christian win when Jericho pins Miz. This was a good match. Afterwards Dolph hits Jericho in the back of the head with the MITB case.

Back to Daniel Bryan being given his evaluation. This time the guy shows him ink blots. One looks like a “goat face”. Daniel flips out and says that he’s not a goat face or an oompa loompa. He is the greatest of all time (goat.) then asks if Charlie Sheen has anything to do with this. Then Daniel says if Charlie’s there, Daniel is winning. This was idiotic.

Time to find out who the fans feel are more unstable, Daniel or AJ. More TOUTS from fans and most say AJ.

Tyson Kidd vs. Tensai. Tyson Kidd wins by reverse decision DQ. This was decent but short. Tensai got the pin but then afterwards Tensai continues beating down Tyson Kidd. Then Tensai gives him a back breaker. Then the referee reversed the decision and Tyson got the DQ win. Then Tensai takes out Sakamoto AGAIN!

Back to Daniel Bryan. The guy says he’s bitter, short tempered and is obsessed with Charlie Sheen. Then the doctor says that Daniel is 100% sane. Then the red lights come on and Kane comes in. He’s Daniel’s anger management therapist. Then he beats him down.

They recap the Triple H-Stephanie-Paul Heyman-Brock Lesnar segment from last week again. Why are they showing this twice?

CM Punk comes out for commentary.

John Cena vs. Big Show to determine the number one contender for the WWE Title. The match was a no finish. Big Show threw Cena into Punk during the match. Then Show was going for the knockout punch but Cena got Show up on his shoulders. He was going for the AA but Punk came in the ring and hit Cena from behind. Then the referee called for the bell. So technically Cena won by DQ. Then Punk gave Big Show a round house kick. Then Punk gets his belt and the mic and says that neither guy won and that they’re both losers. Punk walks up the ramp and to the back. As he does AJ comes out. She says that both Cena & Show are both winners. Then AJ says that Punk will defend the title against Big Show & John Cena in a triple threat match. I called it. Then Punk comes back out and says she can’t do this to him, he’s the champion. AJ says she’s the GM. Punk tells her to show him respect. The match was good. I knew the match would end with no finish and then AJ would come and announce the 3 way.

This week’s show was better than I expected it to be so that’s a plus. I thought the opening segment was a good way to kick off the show and the Cena-Show match was good too. I called the outcome of it before it happened but I thought it was a good match. The Daniel Bryan stuff was idiotic! I don’t get what they’re doing with him. I’m really hoping to God they aren’t going to have him face Charlie Sheen at SummerSlam! Jericho & Christian vs. Dolph & Miz was a good match too. I also liked the
Sheamus-Daniel Bryan street
fight. The bit with R-Truth and “Little Jimmy” was overboard in the whacky department. Kofi-Titus was decent but short and so was Santino-Del Rio. Randy Orton-Heath Slater was a squash. What will they do with Orton? I don’t know if they’ll have him be in the title picture again. I’m also curious what they’ll do with Heath Slater now that the weekly bits of him getting squashed by the legends looks to be done. Tyson-Tensai was also a decent but short match. The Brodus-Vickie-Sandow bit was hit and miss. Vickie dancing was idiotic but Sandow going after Brodus was good. Overall I thought this was a good show this week.
