7-13-12 Smackdown results and thoughts

Coverage and thoughts on the July 13, 2012 episode of SmackDown

They start the show with a Zack Ryder video mentioning that he will be the Smackdown GM this week. Welcome to Friday Night Zack Down.

The actual show starts with Zack Ryder coming to the ring. He welcomes everyone to Friday Night Zack Down. He says that his first act as GM is to organize the world’s largest fist pump with all the fans. Then he and the fist pump. He says this will be the greatest Smackdown ever. You know it. Then Alberto Del Rio comes out. Del Rio says that he thought Teddy Long was a joke when he was GM but Ryder is a stupid clown who calls himself the Internet champion. Then he gets in the ring and says that this Sunday he will become the real World Champion. And after that he will rule Smackdown. Ryder corrects him and says that this is Zack Down. Ryder says the reason he brought Del Rio to Zack Down is because there is someone who wants to get their hands on Del Rio. Ryder says that this guy is Del Rio’s opponent right now. Sin Cara comes out. I was ok with this segment.

Sin Cara vs. Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio wins by submission. This was a good back and forth match.

They put over their new social media TOUT. They show fans filming themselves mentioning their favorite Raw moments. Who cares?

Teddy Long & Zack Ryder are backstage. Long says Ryder is doing a great job running the show. They shake hands and hug. Then Long walks off. Then Big Show comes by and says that Ryder is doing a terrible job running the show. Show says he can’t believe that Ryder won the battle royal last week. Show then says that Ryder shouldn’t be the Smackdown GM, but he himself should. Then Show he will be the Smackdown GM. He was setting up for the WMD but Great Khali shows up. Ryder tells Show that he will face Khali tonight. Show walks off. Then Khali does the fist pump and says Ryder’s catch phrase. This was goofy but thankfully it was short too.

Primo vs. Darren Young. Primo gets the pin. This was a decent match.

Sheamus & Zack Ryder are backstage. Ryder tells Sheamus that if he & Del Rio duke it out tonight he’s calling the match off (I had no idea Zack could do that). He says he has a show to run. Then Chris Jericho comes by. He says that can’t believe Ryder is in charge tonight. He says that he wants to see this Zack Down train wreck in person. Then Sheamus tells Jericho that if he’s looking for a train wreck then Jericho should step in the ring with him tonight. Jericho says he’s not there to step in the ring with anybody. He says he is there as an observer. Then Ryder books Sheamus vs. Jericho for tonight. Sheamus tells Jericho not to be on the rail track when this train comes through because he will run all over Jericho. This was a good and short segment too.

Intercontinental Champion Christian & U.S. Champion Santino Marella vs. Dolph Ziggler & Cody Rhodes. Dolph & Cody win when Dolph pins Santino. This was a decent match also.

Great Khali vs. Big Show. Big Show gets the pin. Thankfully this was really short.

Curt Hawkins & Tyler Reks come to the ring. Reks gets the mic and says that tonight he will do what Hawkins couldn’t last week and that is hand Ryback is very first loss.

Ryback vs. Tyler Reks. Ryback gets the pin. This was mostly a squash. Reks got a little bit of offense in but Ryback pounded on him through most of this.

More fans TOUTING their favorite Raw moments. Who cares?

Justin Gabriel vs. Damien Sandow. Sandow gets the pin. This was mostly a squash too.

World Champion Sheamus vs. Chris Jericho. Sheamus gets the pin. Afterwards Sheamus poses on the stage. Then Alberto Del Rio’s music hits and a car pulls into the arena. Then Del Rio comes out from the back and round house kicks Sheamus from behind. Then Ricardo comes out of the car. Del Rio punt kicks Sheamus off the stage and then locks him in the cross arm breaker as Sheamus hangs from the stage. Sheamus sells the injury on the floor to end the show. This was a really good back and forth match and the post match Del Rio attack was good too.

I thought this week’s show was good for a weekly TV show and they put more effort into the final hype for Money in the Bank than Raw did. The opening segment with Ryder & Del Rio was ok and the Sheamus-Jericho match followed by Del Rio going after Sheamus was good. The other matches on the show were mostly decent. There were a few squashes on here too but overall I thought this was decent show this week.
