1-12-12 Impact results and thoughts

Coverage and thoughts on the January 12, 2012 episode of Impact
The show starts with Bobby Roode coming to the ring and he talks about how great he is and he mentions that he’s beaten James Storm and AJ Styles and retained the Title against Jeff Hardy. Then he asks Jeff to come out so that he can shake his hand, but Sting comes out and says that he will defend the Title against Jeff Hardy again tonight. This was a mixed bag segment. Roode’s promo was good but I wasn’t crazy about the exchange with him and Sting.

They show Matt Morgan and he runs into Crimson and they plug Direct Auto insurance. Then they talk about their match with Robbie E & Rob Terry. I wasn’t crazy about this either. Why were they plugging Direct Auto on the show?

TNA World Tag Team Champions Matt Morgan & Crimson vs. TV Champion Robbie E & Rob Terry. Morgan & Crimson win Morgan pins Robbie E. This was pretty much a squash. I forgot Robbie E is the TV Champion. After wards Magnus & Samoa Joe come out and attack the Champs and hold up the Tag Titles. The post match beat down was good.

They show the returning Eric Bischoff walking backstage and we’ll hear what he has to say next. Oh joy! I haven’t missed seeing Easy E on my TV (and yes I purposely wrote it that way)!

They recap the Bischoff saga. Who cares about this!?

Eric Bischoff makes his return (boo) and he yaps about his son not being a wrestler. He says that Garrett grew up watching his dad reinvent the wrestling business and making it look easy. He goes on some more and says Garrett has no future of friends in the business and that he should give up his dreams because they’re going to get him hurt. Then Garrett comes out and says that he has friends and he is not going anywhere. Then he says that he is proud to be in this ring and learning from all the great wrestlers in TNA. Then he says that his won’t take that from him. He then mentions Gunner putting him out but he came and he would keep coming back. Then he says that he a new trainer and that Eric will be shocked to find out who it is. Garrett goes to leave and Eric stops him and then Garrett shoves him into the corner. This was awful! Who gives a crap about this Bischoff and Son story!?

They show Winter & Angelina Love backstage and Winter says that she doesn’t need a leader and that she is a former 2 time Knockouts Champion. Then Angelina says that she is a former 5 time Knockout Champion and that everyone should remember what she is about. This was dumb too.

Then show Eric Young & ODB backstage and they go back and forth about whether or not they’re together. This was idiotic!

ODB vs. Winter. ODB gets the pin. Eric Young is all thrilled. This was a comedy match. Angelina came in during the match but Eric Young came in and gave her an Airplane Spin.
AJ Styles comes to the ring and tell Frankie Kazarian to come out. Kazarian comes out and AJ asks why he walked out on him last week. Kazarian says that he can’t tell him why. Then Christopher Daniels comes out and says that he can. Then he tells AJ that Frankie sees him for what he is and that is a lost cause. Then he says that Kazarian is done carrying AJ and called him worthless. He was going after him but Kazarian stops him. Then Daniels & AJ brawl and Kazarian pulls Daniels out of the ring. I’m not sure where they’re going with this.

They show James Storm walking backstage.

They show Bully Ray & Bobby Roode backstage and Ray is saying that he is trending on twitter. Then Roode talks about Sting having him defend the Title against Jeff Hardy again. Ray says that he has Roode’s back and he also wants a Title shot. This was a good segment. Ray saying he was trending on twitter because of his match with Abyss was funny. Both these guys are really good heals.

James Storm comes to the ring and says that if he wants to call someone out he calls them out right away. Then he calls out Kurt Angle. Angle comes out and Storm knocks the mic out of his hand. Then he mentions how Angle takes the low road and does whatever it takes. Then he mentions that he beat Angle to win the TNA World Title in 30 seconds. Then he challenges him to a rematch. He gives Angle the mic and Angle says he’s not dressed to wrestle and that this his night off. He says that he was the better wrestler at Genesis and now he’s focusing on the World Title. Then Sting comes out and says that if Roode tries to get himself DQ’d tonight, he will lose the Title to Jeff. Then he tells Storm & Angle that they since they’re 1 and 1 they will have a rematch and the winner will challenge for the World Title. Angle says he’s not ready and Sting tells him to get his gear because their match is next. This was better than most of the stuff on the show. Storm cut a good promo as usual and Angle and Sting were ok in this too.

Angle’s music plays and he doesn’t come out. Then Earl Hebner calls for the bell and begins to count out Angle. Then Angle comes out getting his boots on and then he hits the ring.

James Storm vs. Kurt Angle. Storm gets the pin to become the number one contender for the World Title. This was a really good back and forth match. This is what they should’ve had at the PPV.

Jeff Hardy is backstage and talks about his rematch for the Title and that the enigma will end the selfish generation and he will win the title.

Madison Rayne comes up to Sting and she says that she wants Sting to name her VP of the Knockouts. Sting says to give her a reason why he should. Madison says that if there’s a job to she does it and Sting mentions how she helps out Gail Kim all the time and then he says that Madison will face Mickie James in a cage match next week. Madison flips. This was ok.
Jeff Hardy vs. TNA World Champion Bobby Roode for the Title. Jeff wins by DQ when Bully Ray comes in and pulls the referee out of the ring when Jeff had the pin. This was a really good back and forth match too and this should’ve been what we saw Sunday, but with a clear winner. After wards Jeff gives Ray a Pescado. Jeff is in the ring while Ray is on the outside telling him that he can’t beat Bobby Roode. That ends the show.

I thought this week’s show was a mixed bag. The opening segment with Sting and Roode was ok. Roode cut a good promo as usual and Sting was ok too. I’m tried of the goof ball Eric Young character and the ODB-Winter match was pointless. The whole bit with the Bischoffs was awful too and I could care less about this storyline. Bully Ray & Bobby Roode had a good backstage segment. The Storm-Angle match was really good and this is what they should’ve done Sunday. The same with Jeff Hardy-Bobby Roode match. They had a good match tonight that they should’ve had on Sunday with Roode going over. I don’t know why TNA builds these matches for their Pay Per Views and then give us flat endings and then they have the rematches on FREE TV! Overall I thought this was a middle of the road show.
