Thoughts on the annual WWE Draft

With WWE having their draft on Raw tonight, I thought I would share my thoughts on the draft since it started back in 2002. The original idea was to make Raw and Smackdown 2 different shows and originally having the WWE Champion and Women's Champion being allowed to appear on both shows. Then in September 2002 they brought in the old WCW belt and since then there there have been two Champions. Then they had the "hard split" with the PPVs in June 2003, which really had no meaning. Then there were 2 sets of Tag belts and they brought in a Divas belt for Smackdown, and both have now been unified with the Tag champs and Divas champion being allowed to be on both shows. Not that any of this has really mattered over the years as talent from both shows have often appeared on the other alot of weeks and the talent themselves for the most part have been booked the same way (main eventer, mid carder, jobber, etc.) no matter which show it is. So the draft has little to no meaning as talent will continue to get a push or lack thereof, just on a different night of the week and I don't see this year's being any different. The only 2 guys I can think of that haven't made apperances on "the other brand" that often are Randy Orton and John Cena and maybe one of them will be drafted to Smackdown tonight. On the whole though, the brand extension/draft really hasn't had that much meaning to WWE. We'll see what happens with tonight's Draft, but I don't really see it having any big meaning this year on the whole.
