Coverage
and thoughts on the October 11, 2013 episode of Smackdown
The show starts with Vickie Guerrero coming to the
ring. Then they reshow Alberto sucking up to her backstage on Raw, followed by
Vickie saying Del Rio would defend his world title against Cena before Del Rio’s
match with Ricardo began. Then Vickie says that last Monday everyone saw the
biggest atrocity in WWE history. The COO of WWE was struck by Big Show. Big
Show tried to compromise the main event at Battleground. Big Show is a deviant
& should’ve been fired a long time ago. All the fans might have thought
that was funny but Big Show’s problems have just begun. 12 hours after that
happened there was for sale sign in the front yard of Big Show’s house (Man I’m
tired of this crap) & to top it off Big Show’s is now unemployed. Vickie
believes Big Show deserves what he…Then Alberto Del Rio’s music plays & out
he comes. He tells Vickie not to make him defend his title against Cena. Vickie
says Cena vs. Del Rio is what’s “best for business” (Can they ditch that
phrase?). Del Rio says this is not fair & there has to be something that he
can do to make Vickie change her mind. She asks Del Rio if what he said about
being sexy on Raw was true. Del Rio says, “Of course. Every single word.” He
flirts with Vickie in Spanish. Then she says if he wants her to reconsider than
he should kiss her. He kisses her on the cheek. Then she tells him to kiss her
on the lips. He gives her a quick kiss there too. She tells him not to do it
like the Gringos, but like the Mexicans. He plants 1 on her & then Vickie
says to try kissing her like a Frenchman would (This is beyond idiotic). Then
she says he can kiss her some other place. Vickie isn’t going to reconsider,
the answer is no. Then out comes Damien Sandow. He has a breaking news bulletin.
Del Rio’s phony. Sandow tells Vickie that Del Rio sees her as a sex object that
he thinks he can manipulate. The part about Vickie that Sandow is most
attracted to is her superior intellect. He likes the way she manipulates her
way through life. Del Rio is out here to have his match with Cena called off
because he knows he will lose, just like he would want Sandow to cash in his
MITB case. Del Rio’s conduct & presence is no befitting of a champion. Del
Rio’s conduct & presence is no befitting of a champion. When given the
opportunity Sandow will show that he is the better man. Vickie always wondered
what the result would be in a Del Rio vs. Sandow match so they’ll have a match
tonight. Sandow doesn’t have to cash in his MITB case & Del Rio’s World
Title will not be on the line. Tonight we’ll find out who is the better man
& wishes them both luck. Vickie leaves. Then Del Rio sucker punches Sandow
& beats on him. Then Sandow gets the upper hand & gets Del Rio in the
corner & stomps on him. Then Sandow gets the briefcase & goes after Del
Rio but Del Rio flees. Del Rio retreats up the ramp & pleads for Del Rio to
get back in the ring. This was the usual “start Smackdown with a promo that
sets up a match” segment. It was kinda weird that they had 2 heels though.
Sandow came off like the baby face here.
R-Truth vs. Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel
for the Title. Axel gets the pin. This was a solid match.
Los Matadores vs. Los Locales (Ricardo Rodriguez
& Tyson Kidd in Lucha costumes). Los Matadores win. The in ring work here
was actually decent. I guess they had Ricardo & Tyson Kidd in these
costumes because those guys can have decent matches. This was supposed be a
comedy match but all 4 guys can go & had a decent match. Then 1 of them
goes after Los Matadores & the midget bull gives him a rana. Then they lift
him up & the midget bull gives him a springboard splash.
They reshow Shawn Michaels’ promo from Monday.
Brie Bella, Naomi & Cameron vs. Natalya, Kaitlyn
& Eva Marie. Brie, Naomi & Cameron win when Naomi pins Kaitlyn. This
match was pointless.
Backstage Renee Young interviews Goldust & Cody
Rhodes. She congratulates them on winning at Battleground. They have their jobs
back but once again they’ll be in a tag match. Cody says that last Sunday they
did what very few people have done. They beat The Shield & the odds. Then
Goldust says it was 1 of the most emotional nights that they have ever experienced.
(It was easily the best part of that PPV) Then he thanks their dad for putting
himself in harm’s way. Cody thanks Dusty, Dustin, himself & the fans.
Everybody was a Rhodes that night. Then Goldust says that the fans support
& their determination is what lead them to (Insert Goldust bit here)
victory. Then Cody says that they have an up-hill battle tonight with The Wyatt
family. Cody figures this is their welcome back. Renee wishes them luck. This
was a solid interview bit.
World Champion Alberto Del Rio vs. Damien Sandow.
Del Rio wins by submission. This was a really good back & forth match. I’m
not sure what they had the World Champion face the MITB case holder in a non-title
match but it was good.
Time for a look back at the Big Show saga. You know
in case anybody forgot what’s been happening!
Then Michael Cole gives us a HHH update. He might
need to have jaw wired shut after Big Show’s punch. There also might be a warrant
for Big Show’s arrest.
The Primetime Players & The Great Khali vs. 3MB.
The Primetime Players & Khali win when Khali pins Slater. This was decent.
Goldust & Cody Rhodes come out for their tag
match. Then The Wyatt family shows up on the Tron. Bray says “they” say he
doesn’t belong here & that his intentions are cruel & unjust. “They” claim
he dines with “sinners” & runs with “thieves.” “But the water’s just fine.
Come on in. We’re here.”
Goldust & Cody Rhodes vs. Luke Harper & Erik
Rowan. Goldust & Cody win when Cody pins Harper. This was a good match. The
Wyatts are in the ring in disbelief they they lost as Goldust & Cody back
up the ramp celebrating their win to end the show.
I thought this was decent to solid show overall. The
opening segment was the usual way Smackdown starts & that was probably the
weakest part of the show for me. I did enjoy the Sandow-Del Rio match though. I
also like The Rhodes brothers vs. Rowan & Harper. The 6man tag was decent,
the 6 Diva tag was pointless, Truth-Axel was solid & Los Matadores vs. Los
Locales was decent too. So for the most part I thought this was a decent show.
