Coverage and thoughts on the February 7, 2013 episode of Impact

The show starts with Aces & 8s coming to the ring. Devon says a few weeks ago he said they would dominate 2013. Not only are the dominating, but they’re kicking the front door right in to TNA. After what they did to Kurt Angle last week, he’s sure we’d love to see that again. They show a video package recapping this whole storyline. Devon then says that when he said they had a plan he was oh so right. So he’s now going to introduce the newest Aces & 8s guys, Garrett Bischoff & Wes Briscoe. Garrett thanks Devon. The fans heel him and Garrett says the fans are disrespecting him and to hell with them all. Aces & 8s is his family. Wes says he did this because of Hulk. Hulk never answered his calls for 2 years and then told a Briscoe that he had to start at the bottom. Then Hulk threw him in a gut check match. Wes mentions that his dad have him his first wrestling boots. With Aces & 8s that’s how to climb to the top of the ladder. Devon tells Angle not to even think about coming back to TNA. If Hulk wants to surprise them with a tables match that’s fine. They always have an ace up their sleeve. This was a decent way to start the show. Devon cut a good promo and Wes & Garrett were ok too. Garrett got a loud “You can’t wrestle” chant.

Jessie & Tara are backstage. They go into Brooke’s office. Tara complains about having to fly coach. Brooke says they sound petty and selfish. Tara complains about having to face Tessmacher. Brooke says Tara will face Tessmacher and Jessie is barred from ringside. Jessie says he flew all the way to England. What’s he gonna do? Brooke says that he can get her coffee. This was weak. This whole Jessie-Tara “Power couple” bit is old.

X Division Champion Rob Van Dam vs. Kenny King vs. Zima Ion for the Title. RVD wins when he pins Ion. RVD gave Kenny the 5 star frog splash, but Ion was down already & Van Dam decided to pin him. This was a really good match.

Aries & Roode are backstage. Aries says when they put their egos aside they’re unstoppable. They mention they were both world champion and that they win the tag titles tonight. Good segment. Roode said he was the longest reigning champion in TNA history & Aries mentioned that he beat him. These 2 are good together.

They show a video package on British Boot Camp. Rock Star Spud won the contest. This was solid.

Bruce Pritchard & D’Lo are backstage. They’re both shocked that Wes & Garrett turned heel (They’ve gotta be the only ones). Bruce says when Angle returns there will be hell to pay. This was weak. They looked like morons talking about how shocked they were about Wes’s & Garrett’s heel turns.

Jessie is in the ring. He says that Brooke Hogan has banned him from ringside but he will give the fans what they paid for. To see a true Hollywood star because who do they have to cheer for? He tells the fans to get their cameras out. Then James Storm’s music plays & he comes out. Storm says he was listening to Jessie talking about taking pictures. Storm says the fans don’t care about taking pictures of Jessie. They’re their to drink beer and watch guys get beat up. Last week Tara saved Jessie from the last call super kick. This week, Storm will kick the crap out of him, then drink some beer and then hold up Jessie so the fans can take pictures of him with out teeth. He says he’s gonna call out a referee and Jessie should call his dentist.

James Storm vs. Jessie. Storm gets the pin. This was ok. Then Storm gets a mic and holds the out cold Jessie’s face up to it and says sorry about your damn luck in a Muppet like voice.

TNA World Tag Team Champions Hernandez & Chavo Guerrero, Jr. vs. Austin Aries & Bobby Roode for the Titles. Aries & Roode win to become the new champions when Aries pins Chavo. This was a good match too. Aries & Roode argued during the match & Roode left near the end but came back out.

Backstage Ray tells Sting the fans will be chanting tables. Sting says, “Bully get the tables.” In comes Hulk & Sting and Brooke walk out. Hulk says this tables thing is tailor made for Ray (Duh). Hulk says it will make so happy if Ray proves that he’s the good guy that he says he is. Ray says just because he’s good to Brooke, that doesn’t make him a “good guy.” He hasn’t forgotten about what Aces & 8s did to them on Ray & Brooke’s “wedding.” Ray’s not a “good guy”, he a “bad one.” Hulk says it’s up to Ray to end this for all of them. Ray says consider it done “dad” & walks out. Hulk then says, “Perfect.”  This was ok.  Ray cut a good promo like usual.

Time for an AJ Styles video package about the bad luck he had in 2012.

Brooke Tessmacher vs. Knockouts Champion Tara. Tessmacher gets the pin. This was good also.

JB is in the ring & he brings out Rock Star Spud. JB congratulates him on winning British Boot Camp. Spud says he’s in the building. He’s finally in the ring in front of thousands of his home countrymen as the newest member of the Impact Wrestling roster. Then out come Robbies E & T. He says the face that Spud has a TNA contract is a travesty “bro”. Unless they’re hiring midgets. Spud’s not a rock star; he’s a pizza delivery guy. Then E pulls T in front of him and then says that Spud’s lucky Rob Terry’s holding him back. E says that T would knock Spud out right now if he told him to. T steps aside & then Spud punches E to the mat. Then Rob Terry & Spud dance in the ring. Robbie E was livid. This was hokey.

Sting & Ray are backstage. Ray says that Sting has his back from the start & he’s not letting Sting down tonight. Tonight they’re putting Aces & 8s through tables. Brooke shows up and asks if they’re ready. Sting tells Ray he needs to literally get his game face on. Ray says he’s getting the war paint. Sting says it’s show time and then Ray hugs Brooke. This was ok too.

Mike Tenay says that Jeff Hardy will be back on Impact in 2 weeks (That’s because he wasn’t in the UK).

Sting & Bully Ray vs. TV Champion Devon & Doc in a tables match. Sting & Ray win when Ray puts Devon though a table. Mike Knox came in & got a table out of the way when Sting was going to suplex Doc. Then Knox held Sting for Doc but Sting got out of the way and Doc hit Knox. At the end Ray Hulked up & put Devon through the table. This was a solid match. Then out come Hulk & Brooke. Sting & Ray hug then Ray hugs Brooke. Then they raise each other’s hands. This ends the show.

I thought this was a good show overall. The opening segment was decent. Devon’s promo was good. Wes & Garrett were ok but they’re both green. The tables match at the end was a solid brawl. The tag title match was good too & I liked that they put the titles on Aries & Roode. Tessmacher-Tara was good too. Storm-Jessie was ok. The Rock Star Spud-Robbies E & T bit was hokey. The backstage bit with Bruce & D’Lo was idiotic. The backstage segments with Sting, Ray, Hulk & Brooke were ok. I really like the RVD-Kenny King-Zima Ion match. Overall I enjoyed this week’s show.
