Coverage and thoughts on the December 20, 2012 taped episode of Impact
They started the show sending their condolences to the families of the victims of last Friday's tragedy. Classy move.
Then Kurt Angle comes to the ring. Since tonight it championship Thursday he's looking for a title shot. He wants a shot at the TV Title and tells Devon to get his ass out there. Out comes Devon with the rest of Aces & 8s. Angle says Devon had to bring his pack with him. Angle has a pack of his own. Out come Samoa Joe, Wes Briscoe & Garrett Bischoff.
Kurt Angle vs. TV Champion Devon for the Title. Devon gets the pin. During the match a brawl took place outside the ring. Angle waited inside the ring while everyone brawled. Devon got back in the ring and clipped Angle's knee from behind. Later in the match Angle had Devon in the ankle lock and then Aces & 8s came back out and distracted the referee as Devon tapped. Then Joe, Wes & Garrett came out. Then the big Aces & 8s guy hit Angle with a pipe. Then Devon got the pin. The match was solid and the brawls were good, but I'm not sure why everyone left and then came back out.
Brooke Hogan is in the GM office with Velvet Sky, ODB, Brooke Tessmacher & Mickie James. ODB decides to walk out on her own to take of EY. I can't stand these bits.
Kenny King mention that he beat RVD last week. He hasn't got any beef with RVD. Impact is the place where dreams come true. He fought RVD last week and is teaming with him this week. I'm not sure why they had Kenny King lose to RVD at Final Resolution, then beat him last week in a non title match and is now teaming with him this week.
X Division Champion Rob Van Dam & Kenny King vs. Matt Morgan & Joey Ryan. Morgan & Ryan win when Morgan pins RVD. Kenny could've stopped Morgan from giving RVD a Carbon Footprint but he rolled out of the ring and let Morgan hit it. This was solid. It looks like we'll be getting an RVD-Kenny King rematch. Kenny is all smiles on the ramp and asks RVD how his face is.
They replay AJ Styles' promo from last week.
The camera guy asks Kazarian how he feels about AJ walking out. Kazarian says he doesn't feel anything. AJ's boots were made for walking and he is out of sight, out of mind. Kazarian says he's concerned with it being the holiday season. He has a gift for everyone. Then he takes a call and it's "St. Nick." He asks how "Donnor's doing."
Hulk Hogan comes to the ring. He says the fans make him feel like he's 18. 2012 has been a great year for TNA. He saw this small company start to grow and now it's a full fledged monster. The TV & PPVs have been great. Now they're giving fans a chance to vote for TNA wrestler of the year. We'll find who the winner is on January 3. Cue Aces & 8s music and out the come. Hulk tells Devon to get in the ring by himself. Devon says Hulk's been telling so many lies, he think Hulk is starting to believe them. 2012 was the year Aces & 8s was born and beat the hell out of all the so called TNA wrestlers. This club represents the truth, not the garbage Hulk's been telling the fans. The fans chant Hogan. Devon says 2013 will also be the year for Aces & 8s. It will also be the year that they be revealed and their goal will be accomplished, but Hulk won't be around to see it. Out comes Bully Ray and he screams at Aces & 8s to get in the ring. Then Hulk & Ray have a stare down. Hulk eveentually walks out, still not trusting Ray. This was a decent segment. I liked Devon's line about Hulk starting to believe all his own lies, since that how it would seem he really is. How long will the "Hulkster doesn't trust Ray" bit go on for though? That's getting old.
Jeff Hardy mentions that he beat Austin Aries at BFG. He found a new respect for him, but now he sees his true colors. Aries paid Aces & 8s off to take him out. Jeff says he's easy to find.
Back to the Brookster with the remaining knockouts. Tessmacher says she deserves a fair shot without Jessie at ringside. Mickie doesn't think she's had a fair fight either. Velvet says they're all their for a title match. Brookster eliminated Tessmacher. Tessmacher says she'll prove everyone wrong. This was weak too.
Kazarian is backstage and is on his way to the ring with a gift.
Frankie Kazarian comes to the ring. They have a throne and Christmas tree in the ring. He says not even the fans can ruin the festive mood he is in. He has the holiday spirit. The tree has a pic of Kazarian & Daniels on top of it. Then Kazarian brings out his friend, the guy who beat AJ Styles, the face of Impact, Christopher Daniels. Out comes Daniels. Kazarian says that since Daniels has been such a deer friend to him and since Daniels is a trustworthy saint of a man, Kazarian has arranged for a very special vistor to come out. Of course it's "Santa Claus." Out comess a guy in in a Santa costume (and looking kind of thin). Kaz says that since Santa's always giving presents, they decided to get him a gift. It's a pair of zubaz. Santa hugs Kaz. Kaz is sure Santa has a question for CD. Daniels sits in "Santa's" lap and Kaz takes a pic. Then Santa asks if Daniels has been good this holiday season. Daniels says he's been so good. He got rid of the biggest loser in Impact history, AJ Styles. Santa says since they've given the fans what they want he will grant them their wish. Daniels says Christmas isn't about the gifts you get, but the gifts you give. Then Daniels asks "Santa" to give gifts to AJ Styles' kids since won't be able to. Then James Storm comes out. He was watching them make a mockery out of Christmas. When they start running down Christmas that won't happen on his watch. Daniels then tells Santa that Storm is the reason AJ can't get a title shot. He tells Santa to put Storm on the naughty list. James Storm gets in the ring and asks the Santa guy who he is. The guy says he's Sants. Storm says when he was 6 he asked for a gift he never got. The same happened when he was 16. Storm gets that Santa's busy this time of year bringing gifts to kids. Then Storm asks "Santa" what he asked for Christmas. Santa says it had to be something country. He brought up some country singer. Then Storm punched out "Santa." Sorry about "Santa's" damn luck. Then Storm throws gifts to the fans. This was a decent segment. Daniels & Kazarian were funny as usual. The Sants guy was ok and I was alright with James Storm's promo.
Austin Aries asks if the camera guy can hear his thoughts. He's thinking for the second week in a row he is in a title match. Jeff challenged him and that was a mistake because this won't be a ladder match. This will be a wrestling match. Aries will show why he is the best wrestler in the world today & regain his world title. Good promo.
Sting will be back on 1-3-13 and is coming to get Aces & 8s.
Aces & 8s are in the clubhouse. The VP says they had Hulk where they wanted him and then Ray came out. Another guy says he bleeds for this club. Devon says he has someone who might be willing to step up. He's a bit arrogant but can get the job done. They take a vote and it's a yay.
Brooke Hogan is with Mickie & Velvet. She says they've both been working hard. Brooke tells Velvet sit this 1 out. So Mickie gets the title match.
Mickie James vs. Knockouts Champion Tara for the Title. Tara gets the pin. This was a good match.
They show Joseph Park training in Louisville at the OVW training camp. His training partner punches him. He bleeds and then beats the crap out of him.
TNA World Champion Jeff Hardy vs. Austin Aries for the Title. Jeff gets the pin. The referee gpt knocked out during the match. ARies called for another referee. He comes out but so does Bobby Roode. He yanks the second ref out of the ring. Then he makes the slow count. Then he gives Aries a spine buster. Then Jeff hit the Twist of Fate followed by the Swanton. The first referee comes and makes the count. This was a really good match.
The camera guy asks about the world title picture & Aces & 8s. Hulk says that he has plans figured out for both for 2013. He's glad 2012 is almost over. Then Hulk sees Brooke & Bully Ray together and they make out to end the show. This was a weak ending.
I thought this was a solid show overall. Angle-Devon was solid and I liked the brawling during the match. Jeff Hardy-Austin Aries was really good. Mickie-Tara was too. I wasn't into the usual championship Thursday bit with a Hogan deciding who gets the title match tough. The Kazarian-Daniels-"Santa"-James Storm segment was decent too. Daniels & Kazarian were their usual comical selves. The Hulk Hogan-Bully Ray-Aces & 8s segment was decent but the whole "Hulk doesn't trust Ray" bit isn't working for me. The Aces & 8s in the clubhouse bit was kind of weak too. I liked Austin Aries' promo though. Him saying that his thought can't be heard like Jeff's was funny. RVD & Kenny King vs. Matt Morgan & Joey Ryan was solid too and it looks like they're continuing the RVD-Kenny King feud. The end where Hulk saw Brooke & Ray making was a weak ending. This storyline with Ray & The Hogans is lame. But overall I thought this was a solid show this week.
